INTRODUCTIONS
Curator’s statement
Rose Fredrick, May 20, 2024
This exhibition is indeed an introduction. An introduction to artists you may not already know, as well as a new concept: the Rose Fredrick Project Space. I am thrilled to once again to be working with my friends at Gallery 1261 and Abend, and to have access to exhibition space in the Golden Triangle, just a stone’s throw from the Denver Art Museum.
As an art advisor and writer for several fine art publications, it is vital to in tune with the art market, especially here in the Western US. I can’t think of a better way to do that than through curation. And I love the philosophy that guides the artists in both Gallery 1261 and Abend: paint for yourself; paint what’s in your heart and soul; be authentic.
In this fluid and terribly unpredictable art market, it is important to keep supporting artists. Their voices are part of the fabric of our lives. In my humble opinion, art makes this world livable and rich. With the Project Space, I can bring in artists whose careers I’ve been following for years, and compliment what Quang Ho and Christine Mileham have been so diligently growing for decades.
Introductions shines a light on contemporary realist of the western United States and artists who are taking an authentic look at issues in the West. My goal is to create a platform for a larger conversation around places and spaces in the West, issues we are dealing with, and shine a spotlight on the important work being done here.
