Gallery 1261 is proud to present Badass Women of the West, a dynamic exhibition celebrating the talent and tenacity of women artists shaping contemporary realism in the Western U.S. The exhibition brings together painters, photographers, and sculptors whose work redefines what it means to create art in and about the Western landscape.
Badass Women of the West honors artists who challenge norms, celebrate resilience, and offer fresh perspectives on the traditions of the region. Through a wide range of approaches and mediums, the exhibition highlights work that is both visually compelling and rooted in lived experience, expanding what Western art can look like now.

On the Exhibition
Over the past three decades, women artists have taken on big issues in the West and introduced new ways of seeing through unusual materials and techniques. One reason these voices feel so vital is that women have often been overlooked, and as a result, have not felt the same pressure to conform. Instead, many have approached challenging topics and emotionally charged themes with a fearless sense of invention.
This exhibition brings together a selection of innovative artists whose work reflects that spirit, bold, independent, and uncompromising.
