Scott Fraser's notes about "Tiptoe":
Many of my ideas take place on a horizontal plane, so I challenged myself to think vertically in this painting. The trick is to build something that carries the attention of the viewer upwards. There is also visual interest in the textures of the objects and the gestures of the hand and the monkey. I loved reading books by Dr Seuss when I was growing up. Sharing them with my kids rekindled my interest in his vivid imagination. The profile of the hand balancing the pickle fork is a direct nod to the Smorsasbord page in his book, Happy Birthday to You. I just loved looking at that picture when I was a child.
